Empty Shell

I thought about you today. It's been a while since you've randomly popped up in my brain, but I know you're always there. I still love you, and miss you more than you could ever possibly know. Life is busy, which is nice because it piles stress and to-do lists in my mind, which pile on top of the thought of you and the pain that I get in my heart.

I remember how we used to be. I would just forget to breath around you. I was too busy to breath. I wanted every second with you to last forever, and I was afraid that if I let even one breath out, the moment would slip away. And you know what, it did, way too quickly.

I have been so blessed in my life to have so many people come in and out of my life, for whatever amount of time, and have each person mean so much to me. Even though they all meant so much to me, they all meant something different. I learned something from each one of those people, and there is a special place in my heart for them all.

Your place, I keep sacred. Hidden. I don't like to go to that place as much as I used to, because now that place seems empty without you. I feel like my soul was left behind, to follow you because it felt lost without you.

I've found my way in life without you, but it just doesn't feel the same. I have survived without you, like I knew I would, but it's not the same. I feel like an empty shell of of the person I used to be, walking around in a broken body. I know that this is the way it has to be, but I wish it could go back to the way it was.

I just wanted you to know that I thought about you. I still do. I always will.

Stuck in a Rut

Happy April! Boy things have been busy lately! It's funny how much your life changes after marriage. It's like there is a part of you before you were married to ENSURE you had time to blog/plan/buy. After it's like that part slows down an awful lot and gets replaced with other stuff like photography/new job/travel. lol At least it did for me. Not that blogging isn't important, because to me it means so much and does so much for me. It lets me express myself when I might not have anyone to listen. Even if no one reads my post, I still feel so good to get the thought out.

I feel like I've been stuck in a rut creatively. Like I have no ideas to do creative shoots, and I almost don't want to? It's a weird feeling and I don't really like it so I hope that changes. Photography is such a passion, and regardless of my own creativity for personal projects, my clients always inspire me. :)

April is going to be a busy month. We have our upcoming trip to Mexico (aka honeymoon 5 months later) with my bff Becky (and helping her as a second shooter for a super awesome destination wedding). I have a lot of cleaning to do around the house. Spring cleaning to be exact. I've been neglecting my house, so I feel bad. Now I need to cleanse and purge, so I'm excited to get it all taken care of. I have 4 days off for Easter from work, so that is what I plan on doing.

J's birthday is on the 10th, so we'll be in Mexico celebrating, which is nice! I can't wait. Only a few more days and we can have a nice vacation from this cold weather we've been having in Alberta. And it will be nice to get away from the giant ball of stress that's been following me around, targeting my back.

For this weekend, I have so editing to do. I have to get rid of our old van that's been sitting in our parking spot since it died almost a year ago... lol. I have to get my hair done. That's one thing I hate about having red hair... it fades so quickly! It's been 6 weeks since I got it done, and next time I'm making my appointment for 4 weeks not 6. It looks horrid right now. And then we're going to go look at puppies. I wanted to get J a dog for his birthday since he's wanted one for a while now. Oh and we're going to look for a new place to live too, so that's exciting!

Happy Wednesday!

I got an email today from one of my brides that said "I just heard your name on the radio!". I was like WHAAAT? So it turns out that the little email I sent to the local paper (Red Deer Advocate) about this really awesome organization I volunteer for, was going to be turned into an article for the paper!!

I took a chance and applied to be a volunteer photographer for a non-profit organization, Helping Hearts, that provides photography sessions for families with sick children. I applied because I believe that if I have a gift, that I should use that gift to help people in need. We can be there to help families at a time when things are not so wonderful, but we can help to preserve those beautiful and precious moments with their children. I got an email a few days latter letting me know I have been accepted as a volunteer photographer! I was so thrilled to be a part of such an incredible cause!! They have photographers all over the country, so if you know of anyone who could benefit from this organization, please pass along the information!

I think it's a pretty neat article, mind you some facts were TOTALLY distorted. Like the 'fact' that my photography is a "hobby that developed into a pretty good living". LOL I don't even know where he got that from, and it's totally un-true! Which is why I have a full time job on TOP of that! But I think it's still awesome that they wanted to spread the word about this awesome resource.

Red Deer photographer Ashley King takes pictures of weddings and musicians, and even snaps boudoir portraits for women who want to give their significant others a lasting memory of a moment in time.

It’s a passionate hobby that developed into a pretty good living, but some of her best work is still done for free.

“Photography is a huge passion of mine and the chance to help people is fabulous. If I was ever in the position where I had a sick child, I would hope these resources would be available to me,” King said on Tuesday.

King is one of three photographers in Red Deer who donate their time and skills to Helping Hearts, a charity started by two female photographers in British Columbia that provides free portrait sessions for families with children who have life-altering illnesses and disabilities.

The charity lets interested families choose between all available photographers, sets up the session and provides the photographic work for free. After the session, the photographers give the clients the photos on a disc, and an eight-by-10 print of their choice.

The challenge is to make sure the clients feel emotionally satisfied with the photographer’s particular methods, King said.

“Every photographer has their own style, so it’s important that the family feels comfortable and connected to the photographer.”

A growing demand for these professional photographic services has made King take to her website to spread the word about the new charity, and she hopes that other photographers in Red Deer and Alberta will think about volunteering for Helping Hearts.

“If there’s a chance for me to help out a family that is struggling with the pain of a sick child, you do what you can to help,” she said.

King also hopes that families in need will catch wind of Helping Hearts and get in touch with a passionate photographer like her, who understands the need to capture these pivotal moments in a family’s life.

“I know there are lots of sick kids in Alberta and Canada and we want to do more, we want to make sure their families have these memories forever.”

Spin Around

I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. It's so funny how each day is so different. It can be the most gorgeous day outside, but people can have the most terrible days. I know personally, it's the terrible days that make us appreciate when we have a good one.

Last month I had the most terrible string of bad days. I sure hope March is better. So far we're doing ok.

My poor kitty Zero passed away on the 27th. We've only had her for 3 years (September would have been 4), and she was only 3 1/2 years old. She's always been a sick cat... she had a thyroid condition and a gastrointestinal problem. She had her good days and bad days, luckily most of them were good. Suddenly, she got really sick and hadn't moved for about 3 days. No water no food, nothing. I would move the water and food over to her and she would take a sip or two, but that was it. I knew something was really really wrong. So I made the appointment for the vet. Zero hated the vet with a fiery passion. She passed away the night before we could take her. So I don't officially know what it was, but we were thinking it was some form of cancer or a tumor. :( Either way, I really miss her, but I know she's in a better place.

Work was busy and hectic all month. Josh's work is just driving me nuts right now and we're just waiting to see if he has to go back to the truck or not.

My grandmother is stable and at home, but unfortunately it's a waiting game for the cancer to start affecting her system. For now I am just grateful that she is happy and relatively pain free. Glad I got to see her while she was coherent and happy to see me.

I had traded with a photographer to get some photos done, and I am pretty happy with the outcome. :) I made a 12 month calendar for Josh with them for valentine's day, so that was pretty cool.

On a happy note, Josh and I are packing up our bags and heading to Mexico (I don't know about happy or sad face for that yet lol) and I am doing my first destination wedding!! My BFF Becky asked me to help her out and be a second shooter for this wedding. Josh and I were planning on going on a vacation anyways, so this worked out quite well! I am so super pumped.

Happy Long Weekend!

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! I know for my US friends it was President's Day. Here in Canada it was Family Day. I didn't get to spend it with family, J had to work, but what else is new in that department. Mind you, I shouldn't talk because I had to work too! But I always have to work. When I'm not at my day job, I'm doing my <3 other job (photography).

I did this wedding on Sunday, and I just have to say... if you are planning on hiring a photographer, please ensure the following things.

1) Please decide on locations that YOU like. Please do not leave this task to the photographer if you know you don't like certain settings or have something specific in mind (but you do not tell them). Also have a BACK UP PLAN. Take the time to go for a consultation with your photographer to find locations that you would like.

2) Please do not have your photographer walk around your reception for 5 hours with nothing "specific" to do. You can only have so many pictures of people dancing and sitting. If you are having a photo booth, that's perfect because it gives them something to do.

I just had to vent for a minute, because while I love weddings, I try to point these things out to my couples before hand. Sometimes people listen, and sometimes they don't. Vent over.

Aside from that I did some editing and I had a massage which was nice. And another frappuccino. I'm terrible. lol

I also watched rich bride poor bride for the firs time since the wedding. YIKES. Some of the couples on there just make me wonder....

I get home and sit down, and think "Boy, it's nice to be completely caught up on editing. What should I do with myself?" And then I remembered the fact that I am the WORST blogger ever...

I did not mean to leave you all for so so so long!!! I am mortified to think of how long it's been since I posted. At one point, THIS was my only means of expressing myself for so long, and I can't believe I abandoned it. It feels like I abandoned ME! But alas, I have returned. After a long hiatus (quite possibly 5 months or more... lol).

Soooooo GUESS WHAT?! I'M MARRIED!

The Dominican was absolutely gorgeous and everything with the wedding was so stunning. Except me, I was kind of a disaster, BUT that doesn't matter because I married my absolute best friend in the entire world!

My new job is going incredibly well, and my photography.... well let's just say I freaking love my 2nd job. It's not even a job, it's just something that I so love to do that I don't really remember what my life was like before I started it. Well I do... but now it just seems so empty! I am so pumped for 2011, I have my very first destination wedding in April in Mexico, a wedding in Vancouver, another one back in my home town (not birth town though) of London, Ontario. So many exciting adventures, wonderful people, and cool places!!

What else is new.... OH I tried a Starbucks Frappucino (sp??) for the first time EVER. OH MY GOSH. How did I ever exist without these?! Probably the greatest discovery all year!

Anywho, I will depart for now, but promise to keep an updated blog. Not posting every 5 months or so, but I'll try to make it a weekly thing. :)

I applied for a provincial government job about a month ago, went through all of the interviews and what not, and got the call today that I GOT THE JOB!!!!!! I am soooo ecstatic! WOW. AMEN HALLELUJAH!! Right before the wedding, this truly is an awesome wedding present. :)

I just got a call from Much Music saying that I had won a contest that I entered earlier last month. They are paying for us to fly to NYC for 3 days with hotel and a bit of $$, and best of all we get to go see the Drake concert (hurray for Jimmy - DTNG)!!!!! I feel like I'm the king of the world today (suiting that it's my new last name isn't it?)!! What should I do? What should I see and eat?! I am sooooo excited I have never been to NYC!! YAY!!

My two cents on weddings.

FYI - Weddings suck up all of your money. Don't worry about getting things for your wedding that wont matter in the end anyways. Do add special touches of YOU through out you wedding. DIY as much as possible. Ask people (and yes offer to pay them) with talent to help create or do something for your wedding. Buy reasonably priced items from Etsy. Especially from the incredible Michelle S and her shop Sweet Peas and Seashells.

But if you only remember one thing, remember that this is the day that you marry your best friend. The day that you will remember for ever, but will go by in the blink of an eye.

No one will remember what color your napkins were. Nor will they remember the little favors. They will remember the most beautiful day they saw their family/friends get married (and they will also remember the food/drink/dancing). And remember the people who helped you along your journey down the aisle. And STOP worrying about everything. Things that are out of your control will happen, and you just have to be calm and collected to deal with those things in the right way by finding alternate solutions or possibly even just letting go.

Your day will be beautiful because YOU are beautiful. So sit back, and don't forget to HAVE FUN!

At Home Reception

Just a quick little recap of the at home reception (pre-wedding) that our parents threw for us back in Ontario (home for us). It was at the gorgeous civic gardens in London, ON.

Everyone came inside and got one beverage (there were 3 signature drinks, one non-alcoholic and the other two had alcohol). They took their seats at their gorgeously decorated tables, and they announced our "grand" entrance. Then we had one of my brothers and one of his brothers (both around age 13) emcee, which was pretty entertaining. They did a phenomenal job.

My step-mom started the speeches off, as well as the waterworks. She was so sincere and so sweet, it just made me bawl like a baby. Then it was my dad's turn, and he actually made it about 5 seconds into his speech before he started crying (he was the fastest to tear up out of everyone, which was actually quite sweet). J's mom and dad followed with their great speeches. Then it was our turn!

I thought I would type up my speech and put in here (for prosperity), so here goes:

"Thank you all for coming! I wanted to start off by expressing my joy and over-excitement in the fact that so many friends and family clearly love us so much. We want you all to know that whether we are here on such a beautiful Sunday afternoon, in Alberta, or further than that... you are always in our thoughts, and especially in our hearts.

When I think back on this very special moment that was put together by our loving and caring families, I know I will feel the same way I do right now: happy, overwhelmed, honored, and most of all... loved. Happy that we get to see you all and spend time together. Overwhelmed at how much hard work, time and effort it took to have this celebration look so absolutely incredible and come together so perfectly. Honored to have the people that I have in my life and be able to call them my family. Loved because our parents, brothers and sisters, and grandparents made this celebration possible. We are so blessed to be as loved as we are by all of you. To J's family: thank you for letting me into your family with such love and respect from the start of our relationship.

To our parents: thank you for all that you have taught us while growing up, it has made us the people that we are today. We hope you are as proud of us as we are to call you mom and dad. Thank you for believing in us, helping us, and taking us to karate school. Otherwise J and I might never have met. Words can not explain how grateful we are to you for all that you have done to make this amazing weekend possible, and so much more. We love you more than you will ever know.

To everyone who helped make this event possible, and everyone in attendance (whether they are here physically or in spirit) thank you, and we love you.

To Josh: I love you more than words can say. You are my best friend. You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of my self as a one-woman wolf pack. But when I met Josh, I knew he was one of my own. I thought "wait a second, could it be?" and now I know for sure, I just added one more person into my wolf pack. Two of us wolves, running around London looking for Taco Bell and a party. So tonight I make a toast!

We then all got to eat from the 4 food stations. Station 1 was a delicious assortment of sushi which was just delicious! Best sushi I have had in a long time! Station 2 was a cheese and bread/cracker station with all sorts of my favorite cheeses to eat. Station 3 was a coconut shrimp (fried up right in front of you) and my favorite summer salad (spinach, raspberry vinaigrette, and strawberries... YUM)! Station 4 was the kabob station, with 5 different kinds of sauces to dunk your chicken and pork kabobs!

Then there was an open bar and a dessert buffet too!! Everything was just so tasty. There was music and dancing, and a lot of laughs. This was by far the best party I have ever been to, and so glad that it was ours! Everyone loved the decorations, music, food, etc. I can't wait to post pictures!

WOW, only 8 more weeks to go until I step foot on the paradise that is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! I will be sitting on the beach with my fruity tropical beverage in hand, waiting for it to be Friday so that we can finally be MARRIED!! I am so beyond excited to be going away, it's been almost 3 years since my last vacation.

I think I deserve it after everything we have gone through in the last 2 years.

Planning a wedding (Us)
As most of you know, planning a wedding can be quite the stressful affair. We tried to keep it as low stress as possible, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. This has been our "baby" for the last year and a half, and we are so incredibly happy with what we have done. Thank you to everyone who helped us out too, because without you our wedding wouldn't have been the same.

Going to University (Me)
After I graduated from College, I wanted more! Since we moved to another province right after, I decided I would go to University to get my bachelors degree. I have slowly been working at it, since I can not afford to go full time since I work full time.

Starting up my photography business (Us)
This has been an exciting journey for us. I say us because I would never have been able to do this without the support and encouragement from Josh. :)

I have Journey's "Any Way You Want It" stuck in my head right now, it's awesome. I love Journey and sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. That song just makes me so happy, same goes for "Don't Stop Believing" (also by Journey). Noticing a trend here? :)

When it comes to songs for the wedding, we're not really going in your typical direction for wedding music. It's going to be very random, but that's because it's what we enjoy versus what others will enjoy or will consider "timeless" songs.

Canada really SUCKS when it comes to restaurants and fast food places. I really miss living in Florida for this reason (amongst many other reasons as well). There are restaurants in the US that Canada just doesn't have or used to have and now doesn't. We're practically the same country in many different aspects (or at least pretty similar) and I love that each is still different and it's own country, but PLEASE satisfy our Canadian taste buds with some decent restaurants!!

US restaurants I really miss/or have never tried and may possibly be in Canada but most aren't:

Chipotle - never tried but sounds so delicious!
P. F. Chang's - I absolutely love all of their food, especially the lettuce wraps and beef and broccoli.
Sonic's - Never tried, but I really want their new coney dog and a cherry limeade drink!
Benihana - I don't even have to explain how delicious this place is.
Sizzler - My grandma literally raised me on sizzler's and I miss it so! Salad bar mmm!
Ponderosa - This used to be so delicious! My mom, my grandma and I used to go there about once a month.
Steak N Shake - MMMM. Enough said.
Jack in the Box - Oh how I miss thee.
Krispy Kreme - Do you know how long I have craved one of your donuts? 5 years!!!
Fuddruckers - This is my spot to eat with my step dad. This place has the BEST burgers and fries. YUMMO!
Outback Steakhouse - I miss the bloomin onions!
Ruby Tuesday's - Before it went down hill it was good!
Hard Rock Cafe - Love this place, it's just so fun!

Restaurants that they have here but don't quite compare to the ones in the US:

Taco Bell - First of all there is not a ONE Taco Bell where I live, I have to drive 1.5 hours to get my fix. Secondly, they don't have the mexican pizza as a staple item here, WTF! Thirdly, they give you fries with your meal... UM HELLO it's "mexican" cuisine. In the states you get an extra taco... THAT makes sense!
Denny's - I loooove Denny's in the US. We had one literally right next to where we lived, and we used to eat there all the time when I was young. That's still my "spot" to eat dinner with my mom. <3
KFC - It SUCKS here. Their chicken is not so great. They have no BISCUITS or MAC N CHEESE!!! KFC's mac n cheese and their biscuits are SOOOO GOOD. Why must you deprive me of the best part of KFC Canada? WHY?!
Chili's - It's just not the same! :(
Olive Garden - It's so nasty here that I refuse to eat at there.
Applebee's - Same menu for the most part, but for some reason the US restaurants taste much better.
Chick-fil-a - I have never had you but I want to taste you.

Restaurant's Canada has that the US doesn't have (or very few):

Tim Horton's - SO GOOD (I'm referring to the sandwiches and soups/chili). I have never tried their coffee because I don't drink it, but people refer to it as crack.
The Keg - A really delicious steak place that Josh and I take each other to on our birthdays. I love their sourdough bread and asparagus.
Fast Eddie's - Unfortunately they don't have this all over Canada, I'm pretty sure it's just an Ontario thing. The most addictive chili cheese fries with cheap hamburgers, you can't go wrong. The also have yummy "flavored" fries such as dill pickle, ranch, and bacon!

So if any of my American friends are feeling generous maybe you can fedex me some of my favs!

Walmart Shoes

If there is anyone looking for cute and cheap flats for every day, Walmart has some adorable ones right now and they are only about $15. I bought these yesterday, so COMFY!And a pair of purple ones.

I bought ones that looked EXACTLY like this from Spring Shoes (a shoe company called Blowfish) and they were $60 and were ruined like 2 months later. I would much rather pay $15 for the exact same pair of shoes to get ruined.

This day, the 22nd of July, at 7:16 PM 23 years ago yours truly was brought into this world after an intense and LONG (more than 24 hours) delivery by her beautiful mom. Thank you mom for being such an amazing person and bringing me into this world. Thank you for being adamant that the doctors not do a c-section, and telling them that I would come out on my own terms (even though it might have been easier for you). Thank you for giving me a beautiful name, home, and family. I love you more than you will ever know.

Sometimes when all is said and done the bride and groom are left with a bunch of favors left behind by their guests. This won’t happen if your favor is an edible! I found this delicious recipe for diy oreo truffles on the kraft website ad thought it would be a perfect diy favor idea for all of you planning your own wedding!

They only require a few ingredients so they are extremely affordable and they don’t take very long to make! Here’s the recipe!

Oreo Truffles (Makes 42 individual truffles!)

1 pkg. (1 lb. 2 oz.) OREO Cookies, finely crushed, divided
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
2 pkg. (8 squares each) BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted (Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate..Choose your fav!)
Optional – Candy sprinkles for additional customization – find some in your wedding colors!

MIX 3 cups of the cookie crumbs and the cream cheese until well blended. Shape into 42 (1-inch) balls.
DIP balls in melted chocolate; place on waxed paper-covered baking sheet. (Any leftover melted chocolate can be stored in tightly covered container at room temperature and saved for another use.) Sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs. (Here is where you can also add some of your candy sprinkles to add some color! You could also wait till after refrigerating and further decorate your truffles with different colored chocolate by piping pretty designs or swirls on top!)
REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm. Store any leftover truffles in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

That’s it – you will only need to wrap them up for your guests! Some cute packaging ideas would be individually wrapping each truffle in cellophane (clear or colored) with a pretty bow to match your theme and a favor tag. You could also put them in pretty favor boxes!

Summer means no more snow, nicer weather, and possibly some rain in there (but I love rain when I am "prepared" for it) which equals more photo shoots for my photography biz!!! Summer is my favorite time of year!

We actually went out to a club last night to celebrate our friend Steve's birthday. First time we've been out to the bar in some time. It was nice to go and dance, I LOVE dancing. Some songs I heard there and that I'm digging right now:

Wedding Dress Collection Complete

So I am that mythical creature in the bride world that is known as a dress whore. I have a problem, and I love them all so what did I do? I AM A 3 DRESS BRIDE. Well technically for the big day I just have two dresses (my wedding dress and a dress for the reception), and then my 3rd dress will be used for my trash-the-dress session. Personally I don't care what anyone thinks about it because my 3 dresses still cost less than most peoples single dress.

My Sottero & Midgley JSM1103 was bought second hand at a very discounted rate. Perfect for me because I could never see myself (this is just my personal choice, but there is nothing wrong with it if you chose to) spending more than $1,000 on one dress.

Next is my reception dress. I had this made by a company called Milly Bridal.

I ordered my dress back at the end of January (the 31st actually). I was told of the time line, and then figured with the Chinese New Years that it would tack on a little extra time.

I got pictures of my test dress mid to late March. I made some changes and had little communication with them in the mean time, which made me a little anxious because I had no idea what was going on or when it was going to be finished. Seeing some of the negative feedback and people who had to ask for refunds on the boards in the Milly Brides Group was making me even more nervous! But I thought, there hasn't been a reason for me to freak out, so I wont let it get to me.

I recieved my dress on Tuesday (but was out of town, so I couldn't pick it up until today). I want to tell you all how relieved I am, because really my expectations were starting to get a little low. I think the craftsmanship of the dress is excellent. There are some areas that will need to be taken in (around my "girls" for example). Over all, for the price I really couldn't ask for more. They turned a dress I would never be able to afford, into an affordable version of my dream reception dress.

I just need to find a bra that holds my girls in place now. ;)

Over all, very happy with my experience with this company. With all 3 of my dresses the total spent was still under $1,000 for all three dresses. So really I couldn't ask for more! Now what? On to shoes perhaps?

Life Lessons from Ashley

Josh's grandmother passed away early this morning and I just wanted to write something really quick out to the blog world and my wonderful followers.

Please enjoy every beautiful and not so beautiful moment that life gives you. The not so beautiful moments make those really beautiful moments really special, because they make you appreciate everything that much more. Grab life by the horns and have a fun ride! We don't get to live forever, and so we must enjoy every second we have. Some people are born and they live until they are 85. Others are born and they live 5 minutes. Either way, every moment we get and every breath we take counts. Make sure you use your time living life the best you can. Donate to charity, volunteer at a children's festival, go to a casino once just to see what it's like, cook (and enjoy it even if it's terrible), eat out, travel (even if it's just to the next town), hold a baby (they are so beautiful and just make me feel happy instantly), skydive, ride on a motorcycle, fly in an airplane, plant a tree, read a book, open your mind to other genres of music, go to a concert, try playing a sport, go for walks, go to a movie by yourself, have a pet... I could really go on forever but I think you get where I am going with all of this.

Spend time with your family. They may have drama or they may drive you crazy, but they are all important to you in more ways than you can imagine. They are the people that surrounded you on the day that you were born, watched you grow, the people who came into your life as strangers but stayed be cause they love you so much even though you may not be blood related, and the people who look after your best interest because they want to see you succeed in life and watch you inspire those around you.

Don't forget to tell those who you truly care about just how much they mean to you. They can be gone in an instant and they might not know how you feel (chances are they do, but you should tell them all the time anyways. It makes people feel good). Hug people. Hold their hand. Bring them surprises (who doesn't like chocolate or a nice bottle of wine, right?). Send them a "just because I was thinking about you" card/letter/email.

If you get married, remember what it's about. YOU and your partner. No one will remember what color linens you had or that you invitations didn't 100% match the colors of the rest of your wedding. They will not care how much you spent on your dress or that your ring has a 2 carat diamond. None of it matters. The only thing that should matter is that you love each other and that you are making this commitment to be with that person for the rest of your life. Love them. Don't get mad at them because they forgot to add soandso to the guest list or couldn't decide which shade of white they liked more for the stationary.

I guess this ended up being a little longer that I anticipated, but it's all very important and I feel I have to get it out.

Love with your whole heart. Don't be afraid to fall, and don't forget that if no one is there to help you back up that you can do it all by yourself. Know that you mean the world to someone. Know that while some people say we are not each a special and unique snowflake... you are because, you are YOU and there is no one in the world quite like you. Cherish your victories and accomplishments. Do good things in life, not for yourself but for others that might not have as much as you do. Get into debt for something worthwhile if that's what you really want, but don't go overboard because you do eventually have to pay it off. Dig your toes in the sand. Jump into the really cold water. Stand in the middle of nowhere and scream as loud as you can. BE HAPPY.

And know that even though I may not know you (whoever you are that is reading this), you are special to me.

A little eye opener (blog post) on the fashion store Forever 21. Definitely some things I didn't know. Now I'm not saying other stores don't do the same because well who knows where or how all of our clothes at our coveted shopping stores are made. It really is hard to differentiate the "bad guys" from the "not so bad guys". I can't say that there is one store that I know of that is 100% amazing. Do you know of any? Hurray for the weekend! I feel like I have been drowning in the pile of things to do. Work, school, photography business. AHHHHH!!! Ever just want to run away to a remote island off the map where they don't believe in telephones? I know I sure wish I could right now. Although, I couldn't really live without my phone because I love talking to my mom way too much. I'm sure J wouldn't mind though, he hates the phone.

Yesterday I got some LOVELY chocolate covered strawberries delivered to my work from my gorgeous man!

They day before that I got some beautiful flowers from my boss because of Administrative Professionals day. I completely forgot about it.

It was a great week with all of my nice surprises, but I am still so tired from all of the small things I had going on. I hope May works out to be a little less stressful. I started a class at the University of Calgary on Monday's and Wednesday's (which I have to leave right after work to get there on time and don't get back home until 11-ish at night). I am also going to start swimming. I need to exercise, but ever since my back incident happened I haven't been able to, so this will really help.

Anyways bloggers, have a fantastic weekend! I hope to be able to keep up with my blogging more frequently!

DIY: Flower Girl Tutu Is DONE!

My mom and I have been working on my Flower Girl tutu since my mom got here last Thursday. It was a lot of hard work, but I love it and think it's just perfect! Now I just hope it fits her.. LOL

Instructions:

You're going to need 2-8 yards of tulle, found in your local fabric store. Tulle seems to range in price from very cheap (I got mine for less than $1 a yard) to not really at all expensive for fabric (I saw some tulle for like $6 a yard - it was rather fancy looking). Two yards will suffice for a children's tutu. Some of you might want to make one for yourselves. I used six yards for mine - my tutu is ridiculously poofy and has about a six inch gap with no material. One day, I'll fix that, but for now I just twist it to the side. Depending on how you cut your stripes and tie them on, you may need more or less fabric.

First, you're going to need to cut the tulle into strips. My tulle just happened to be twice as wide as I wanted my tutu's length to be, so I decided it would be easiest to loop the tulle around the ribbon. I cut my stripes about 4 inches wide - the width of these stripes is going to determine the poofiness, so use my tutu to judge.

After you have your strips cut, you're going to want to fasten them to a ribbon or elastic. If you use ribbon, make sure it matches the tulle - or at least compliments it. I forgot to buy ribbon from the fabric store and all I had laying around with some olive green piece. There are several methods for fastening the strips to the ribbon - you can sew them, tie them, or probably even use fabric glue. I opted to tie them on. Because my strips were twice the length I wanted, I just doubled them over and looped them around the ribbon.

Because I am such a horrible explainer of what I mean by 'looping around the ribbon', I drew a picture. Unfortunately, I am also a horrible drawer. I opted to crop out the final result, which is what you achieve by pulling the ends tight, but I don't think it's a crucial element. Just know that in the drawing below, you are actually looking at what will become the inside of the tutu's waist. You want the clean part of the loop on the outside, as in the photo above.

You may want to play around with other methods of fastening the strips to the ribbon. If you have any questions, I will try my hardest to answer them.

Pizza Hut Cheesy Bites Pizza

Has anyone tried the cheesy bites pizza from Pizza Hut?

I had a HUGE pizza craving last night, so I ordered it because there was a special deal. Well I got it and there was SOOO much garlic (don't get me wrong, I like garlic, but not like this). So the pizza part was good, the poppers part I wasn't fanatical about. About half hour later my stomach was DYING!!! It made me sooo sick all night. =(

Needless to say I will not be ordering this again. EAT WITH CAUTION!

Rock The Dress Session

For those of you who are thinking.... what in the world is a Rock the Dress session, it's like a Trash the Dress session but leaning more towards bridal portraits.

Lovely Day Today

I just wanted to start off by wishing you all a happy Tuesday! Hope it's FANTASTIC!

I am so thankful that things have been going well for us since this year started. 2009 was a great year, but quite a struggle for us financially. It was also super sad because we are so far away from our friends and family. This year DH got a great new job, which helps us do so much more now. Today we get our brand new bed (we have never ever had a brand new bed)!!!! It's a king, so I am super excited for him not to hog the bed anymore. It's that bowling ball bed... I wonder if it will make him stop snoring? Any how, my MOH is coming here in less than 2 weeks (and we get to do B-pics, yay!!!), and then I just bought a ticket last night for my mom to come and see us in April!!!! Going to Vegas in May for a weekend, and then the wedding is in October!

I'm so so so so grateful, and I send everyone else good vibes for an amazing 2010!!

DIY Hanger

Here is my DIY hanger! I bought one from lilafrances on etsy for my wonderful mom so that I could use that as a "model" for mine and the other 5 (for Maid of Honor, Mother Of the Groom, Bridesmaid, etc) that I'm going to make. I was so happy when I was done because MAN does it make your hands hurt! I was so proud, and then a few days later, I noticed that it's totally off centre. Oh well, I still love it. =)

Honestly having the other hanger helped me out so much when I made mine because I basically traced the rest of the hanger other than the names. I had to throw out the first 2 when I tried to DIY it without the bought hanger. LOL

Wish Bowl Poem & Papers

Our alternative to getting a guest book was to do a wish bowl. I want to use the wishes to make our wedding scrapbook with. I love the way they came out. I did them in our wedding colors, although I wish the color would have came out a little better. The plum didn't really come out like I wanted it to at all (although it looks more plum than in the picture.. I don't know why it looks blue), but they're still fabulous. It was super easy. I made them in publisher actually. There is a template to make postcards and the card stock was just the right size. SO I just inserted clip art (the word bubble), and then put a text box over the clip art. Made the words different colors, and voila! You could probably do the same in powerpoint! Took me like 10 min. max! I was actually inspired by ones I found on Etsy.

New Beginnings

So super thankful at how great 2010 has started off to be. Mr. BB got a new job!!! We are beyond thrilled because it pays way more. Lets face it, we both love working at non-profit agencies, because they are just such amazing place to work with! They are also well known for not paying the best, so for now I am officially the only one working in non-profit again. This is so helpful to our struggling wedding savings account. We can kind of breath a sigh of relief. The only thing I wont like is that he may not be home every night. =(

We all have to make sacrifices for our careers, otherwise we wont be able to do/afford the things that we want to do. It will be a good change for him, and it will be good for me because it will actually make me focus more on my homework, because when he is home well I can't help but want to be with him rather than doing homework!

Congrats babe, you are so amazing and I am so proud of you!

My best friend for ever and Maid of Honor, Sharaya is coming to the little city for a visit!!! What an amazing best friend!! We are so beyond thrilled to have her here, it's been far too long since we saw each other last (13 months to be exact)! Along with the lovely Charissa (my Red Deer BFF) to join us, we're going to do some shopping at West Ed mall, b-pics session with Just For You Photography, and who knows what other fun girly things!!! Couples Boudoir Session

DIY Hanger

We all love those super cute name hangers on Etsy, like the ones by lilafrances on Etsy :

While it's a great price ($17.50) for one hanger, what if you want to get one for everyone in your bridal party? That starts to get a tad expensive. So, I found a guide article on how to DIY your own. I will be taking on this DIY project, and can't wait to see the end result! I am not very good at these kinds of DIY's, I'm more of the great paper DIY-er, but I will get a few extra supplies so that if I mess up I can just keep trying. Any how, here is the article for you so that you can get out there and make your own too! Thanks to Project Wedding for the article!

"I got the wire i needed at Lowe's... its 14 gauge galvanized wire (it was under $5 for 100feet and i still have left overs after making 9 hangers)

you will also need:

cutting pliers

needle nose pliers

ribbon (i tied cute bows on the top of mine)

you can get those at any craft supply store, they have the pliers for jewelry making and of course they have cute ribbons!!

a premade wire hanger

paper and pen

As for measuring the wire, for a short name like 4 letters I went with 60 inches and added 10-12 inches for each additional letter in the name (a hanger for gina would be 60 inches, one for rosie would be 70-72.. and so on) that will be more than enough.

I used the pre-made wire hanger (like the ones from the dry cleaners) as my template but added the little notches for the dress straps to fall (to make those I used the needle nose pliers to bend the wire down and then back up again in a "u" shape. I basically laid the wire on top of the premade hanger and bent along the curve of it... mostly using my hands.

As for the letters, I printed out some pictures from etsy to see how the letters were made, and I drew out the name exactly how it would be done on the hanger. the pictures from etsy helped alot with some more difficult letters. Just remember all letters have to be continuous. I used the pliers a lot for this part and also a C or D battery to make the circles in the "o's" and "d's" and other letters with circles in them. When you are making it you will see that making the name is not as hard as it looks.

After i finished the name I laid the hanger back on top of the premade one and followed the curve back up to the top and made a notch for the strap the same way I did the first one.

I then brought the wire around the hook part (the part that hangs on the rod in the closet, I don't know what to call it) and twisted tightly using my needle nose pliers. cut off any excess and tied a cute little bow around it and then just played around with it to make sure all the letters were in place and voila!"

Today's confession is about wanting to sell everything and RUN! FAR AWAY!

Some days I wake up in this -40 (Celcius) weather and I just want to sell everything we own and move with Mr.BB to South Africa, Egypt, Antigua, or ANYWHERE but here! Red Deer has a population of 80,000 people. In the winter it's a little more (like 110,000) because people come here to work in the oil field. This is the 3rd largest city in the province of Alberta and it's a HOLE! Calgary and Edmonton are both 1 1/2 hours in the opposite direction, so that helps, but who wants to drive that far to go eat at a decent restaurant? I wish we lived in either city, I would be a little more content. I guess I shouldn't complain because I have my job that I enjoy and it's not like we are stranded in the middle of no where, it's just really hard when you have no friends or family around.

There is no Taco Bell here. How the HELL is there not a Taco Bell here, but in cities that are smaller there are?! Makes no sense. There is also no Harvey's (which is a delicious Canadian burger place) or Red Lobster (which is my favorite)!

We plan on moving to Florida in 2011 (SO far away) if all goes well with Mr.BB's spouse visa appication (or whatever that's called). I can't wait.

Our X-Mas Gift!

Yes, I am a big suck who definately have her fiancee the 12 days of Christmas! Not anything like the real 12 days of Christmas, but none the less I like my list of things. Today is day 3, but here is a re-cap of the things I'm giving him:

Hey there everyone! My name is Ashley and I am a 22 year old bride-to-be! We are currently living in Red Deer, Alberta (Yes, Canada) and are trying to plan a Destination Wedding for October 15, 2010 in the Dominican Republic! We were going to get married on 10-10-10 but the resorts don't do weddings on Sunday's, so we just chose the following Friday because the 10-9-10 would have been a holiday weekend in Canada (which adds up the $ for flight prices).

Josh and I met in Karate when we were 14, so sometimes I will refer to him as Mr. Black Belt, and call my wedding stories "The Adventures of Mrs. Black Belt" because our lives have been nothing but an amazing adventure. We are a pretty quirky couple, and we have quite the sense of humor. We quote movies and songs all of the time, to the point where sometimes I think that we are that annoying couple that people just want to barf by just listening to or watching us, but I'm just fine with that. That's who we are, the couple who is so in tune with one another that it makes people physically ill. I LOVE IT!

We are very laid back, and like to do things a little "differently" than most. I like unique things, funky color palettes, sparkly things, kitties and puppies, Detroit Red Wings, punk rock (and all other kinds of music), DIY, meeting new people, and well writing (otherwise I would be kind of a boring blogger... never writing anything)!

I know from listening to other brides about their weddings that things can't always turn out perfect or just as planned. Sometimes there will be that one hitch, but the most important thing is the two people getting married. I actually find life rather beautiful with the imperfections that it throws at us. They make us grateful for the things we have, the perfection that we find in our love for one another, and the chance that we had for living today because we are never promised tomorrow.

Recipes with Kraft Dinner!

I absolutely love Mac N Cheese. It was a staple at our house when I was little, and I still love it to this day! There are so many dishes you can make with it! Here are a few examples:

Mac N Cheese Salad: (my cousin made this, I wasn't a fan but it was fast and just ok)

1 (7 1/4 oz.) pkg. Kraft macaroni and cheese

10 oz. pkg. frozen peas (thawed and cooked)

1 med. tomato, chopped

3/4 c. mayonnaise

1/2 c. sliced celery

1/2 c. chopped onion

1/2 tsp. salt

6 hard-cooked eggs, chopped (less may be used)

Prepare mix according to directions on package. Add frozen peas. Stir and add rest of ingredients. Chopped green pepper may be added, if desired. Chill before serving.

Tuna Mac N Cheese: (I love making this when Mr.BB isn't home. He hates tuna)

1 box Kraft's macaroni & cheese dinner

1 can tuna, drained

1 sm. onion, chopped

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 can Rotel tomatoes

Cook Mac N Cheese as directed. Add tuna (prepared how you like) and onion. Thin the cream of mushroom soup with milk and add it in the mix with the tomatoes. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. I usually leave it uncovered.

Tex Mex Mac N Cheese: (Mr.BB's fav.)

1 lb. extra lean ground beef

1 pkg. Macaroni and Cheese

1 can chili style stewed tomatoes, undrained

1 cup water

1 cup Tex Mex Shredded Cheese

Brown meat in large nonstick skillet; drain. Stir in Macaroni, tomatoes and water. Bring to boil. Simmer on medium-low heat 15 min., stirring occasionally. Add Cheese Sauce Mix; stir until blended. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Top with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and avocado slices, sliced olives, salsa or sour cream.

Mac N Cheese Beef Casserole:

1 pkg. Macaroni and Cheese

1 lb.lean ground beef

1 can Italian-style stewed tomatoes, undrained

1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves

1/2 cup Double Cheddar Shredded Cheese

Heat oven to 400ºF. Prepare Kraft Dinner as directed on package, omitting the butter. Meanwhile, brown meat in large nonstick skillet; drain. Stir in tomatoes and oregano; cook until heated through, stirring occasionally. Combine KD and meat mixture; spoon into 9-inch square baking dish. Top with Cheddar. Bake 10 min. or until Cheddar is melted and casserole is heated through.

Chili & Cheese:

Chili Recipe:

1/2 to 1 lb of bacon
2 lbs of ground beef
2 packets of McCormick (or other brand) chili seasoning
1 large onion chopped
2 bell peppers (I prefer a yellow and a red) chopped
2 cans diced tomatoes (I prefer the Hunt's Fire roasted )
1 can red kidney beans
1 can light colored kidney beans
1 can of "chili beans" (if you can't find this just use another can of kidney)
1 to 2 cans of plain tomato sauce (I like thick chili so I use 1 can but if you like it soupier use more)

Fry bacon. Drain MOST of the grease but leave enough to coat the pan , throw in the chopped peppers saute for a few minutes , then add onions , saute a few more minutes until soft, add in ground beef , season with garlic powder , salt and pepper to taste, and then 1/2 a packet of chili seasoning and cook through . Add ground beef mixture and all other ingredients including the bacon crumbled up or broken in to small pieces to a large pot or crock pot .... simmer on stove top on low for an hour or in a crockpot on low for 3 hours.
Then, cook KD as directed. Add into Chili. Top with sour cream.

Cheeseburger Mac N Cheese:

3 cups frozen vegetable blend with broccoli, carrots and cauliflower

1 pkg. KRAFT DINNER Macaroni and Cheese

3/4 cup skim milk

1/4 cup Italian Dressing

3/4 lb. extra lean ground beef, cooked, drained

3/4 cup Part Skim Mozzarella Shredded Cheese, divided

Preheat oven to 375°F. Place frozen vegetables in colander in sink. Cook Macaroni as directed on package. Pour cooked macaroni over vegetables in colander to drain and quickly thaw vegetables. Return macaroni and vegetables to saucepan. Add Cheese Sauce Mix, milk and dressing; mix well. Add cooked meat and 1/4 cup of the shredded cheese; mix well. Spoon into 2-L casserole dish; cover with lid. Bake 35 min. or until heated through. Uncover; top with remaining shredded cheese. Bake an additional 3 to 4 min. or until cheese is melted.

Mac N Cheese Lasagna:

1 pkg. Macaroni and Cheese

1/2 lb. extra lean ground beef

1-1/2 cups pasta sauce

1 cup Mozzarella Shredded Cheese

2 Tbsp. Parmesan Grated Cheese

Heat oven to 350°F. Prepare Kraft Dinner using the Sensible Solution directions on package. Meanwhile, brown meat in skillet. Spoon 1/2 of Dinner into lightly greased 8-inch square baking dish; top with layers of 1/2 each sauce, meat and mozzarella. Repeat layers. Sprinkle with Parmesan. Bake 20 min. or until heated through.

Chicken Caccitore and Cheese:

1 tsp. oil

1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, chopped

1 small onion, chopped

2 zucchini, chopped

1 Tbsp. chopped fresh oregano

1 can stewed tomatoes

1 can water (use empty can from tomatoes)

1 box Macaroni and Cheese

Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add chicken; cook 5 min. or until browned. Add vegetables, oregano, tomatoes, water and Pasta. Bring to boil; simmer partially covered, 12 min. or until pasta is tender.Stir in Cheese Sauce; cook until heated through.

"Goulash"

1 box Mac N Cheese
1 can/bottle spaghetti sauce
Ground Beef
Onion

Put some oil in a pan, and on medium heat cook the onion and toss in some garlic if you wish. Then brown the ground beef. Once cooked, drain the remaining grease. Add in pasta sauce. In another pot cook Mac N Cheese as directed. Add mac N cheese to the pasta sauce. Serve with garlic toast.

Confessional Tuesday

I am a makeup whore. I think I own like $2,000 worth of makeup...maybe even more. The sad thing is that I use it ALL the time except for when I go to work (because well who wants to get up an HOUR earlier than normal just to put on makeup). So normally my friends see me in makeup, and at work they see me in no makeup/almost none. I might occassionally (if I have time) put on a sweep of mineral powder foundation (Lise Watier - Poudre Mineraliste... a nice Canadian brand, which is like that Bare Minerals stuff which I have yet to try) and some blush (usually Nars - Orgasm). SO I look like this when I am at work (minus the super childish shades I was trying on at Michael's):

You are probably thinking... ok so what was the point of that? It leads into the second part of my confession: I am a lazy ass! I should look great every day, but I am always too tired to get up early so I can put makeup on because I have to do homework until 11 PM the night before.

The Solution:

New Years Resolution - Make more time for ME! Stop worrying about everything and everyone else and worry more about myself. Both 2008 and 2009 were all about helping out in the community and volunteering (which I wont stop completely because I love doing it), putting up with peoples BS (which I mean... they are family... so I guess it's expected), and just generally about everyone else but me. SO 2010 will be about my health (weight and sanity....hahaha), helping me (school, work, etc), and our wedding. Everyone elses drama can take the back burner for the year while I deal with my own crap. =)

I Love Pretty Dresses!

I just bought this dress on Ebay. It's a Betsey Johnson "tea party" dress and I am in LOVE!!! The seller claims it is authentic and shows pictures of the attached tags, etc. However I have my doubts that it is authentic (price is really low, it's from overseas, etc). I don't care though because it's so adorable! I didn't buy it for the "label" I just bought it because it's one of the prettiest little black dresses I have ever laid eyes on! I'm going to wear it for New Years! Hopefully my fat butt will fit in it. I have been working my a$$ off to loose weight, but I seem to be stuck and it really sucks. It's a size 12, so I don't know how well that's going to work, but if I keep working on my weight (eating right, ecxersize, drink tons of water, cut out salt, carbs and junk) and I still can't fit in it, then I will just wear it another time. Fingers crossed though that I can loose that little bit of weight that I need to get there.

Mr. Black Belt: In the Paper

Aw this was a really proud moment for me. Mr. Black Belt (Future Husband Extraordinaire!) works for the Red Deer Food Bank. He was in the warehouse before, but now he is their full time truck driver. He was on the front page of our local paper this morning!

Unfortunately, it's an article expressing how hard the Food Banks in our city, and surrounding areas are being hit by the economy. The demand in the Food Bank here has risen 80% since last year. It's so hard right now for some families. When I volunteer there, I feel like I am helping, but I still wish there was more that I could do. We donate whenever we can, and I volunteer whenever I have a spare moment, but I wish we could give them a whole truck load of food. I will just keep wishing that donors and the community will continue to give so generously to the Food Bank, and know that we are helping people. Here is the article in the paper:

Finally, I have a moment where I can sit down! These last few days have been just insane for me. SO now I can show you what prompted me to write Part 1 of this! I read two articles that may or may not be very valid. The first one is just hilarious. In no part of his article does he actually have any REAL reasons why people should not cohabitate, but it was quite an entertaining read. Here is the article: Do Not Cohabitate.

The second on actually has some data to prove their theory and some of the numbers behind how many couples that live together before marriage don't actually end up getting married. Here is that article: Science Blog.

So now that you have read "the facts", what is your opinion? Do you already live together with your significant other? Do you think that if you had, that you wouldn't end up together? Or would you be that 40% that would get married after living together?

Kissing, Dating and Cohabitating - OH MY [Part 1]

In my very personal opinion, I MUST partake in the cohabitation with a partner if things get very serious. I am a little bit of a control freak, so go figure I like to know what that person is like in their normal day to day life before I could possibly one day marry that person. As much as you can go over and see what they are like while you visit, it's typically a completely different story once you live with them. I had a boyfriend once who was SO neat and tidy, to a point of almost being anal about it (a glass on the table without a coaster is a NO FLY zone for him). I dated him for a few months, and then we broke up for whatever reason that I don't remember (we had just finished High School) but remained friends for a while. His next girlfriend (after about a month of dating) was let go from her job, and was "forced" to move in with him (because she didn't want to live at home where there was rules of not coming in at 4 AM drunk...). In the month that followed... not only did I find out that he would just shove his clothes into the closet in the living room when company came over, but he would put his dirty dishes in the BATHTUB, because well who would go over to someone's house and look in their bathtub (it may possibly be something that I do now with some friends...don't judge)? YUCKERS! Anyways, moral of the story is that some people put a "mask" on their habits (good or bad) with most people. This story has traumatized me, and thus has lead me to live with three of my boyfriends in my life. I will leave their anonymity for the sake of the story. Before I go ahead, I will just mention that I value every relationship that I have ever and will ever have (friends, family, boyfriends, fiancee, husband, etc). I believe every relationship teaches you valuable lessons about life, and more importantly.. about yourself. I never regret any relationships, ever. Not even the one hour one. HAHA!

1) Mr. Crappy Tire - Dated for 6 months total, moved in at month 4 (he had financial problems because of school and I felt bad... STUPID ASHLEY). We lived together for 2 months (in separate rooms though) before I found his wrappers/cans/bottles UNDER his bed. Needless to say in that moment, I figured out why he always wanted to come into my room to watch a movie. I will also mention that cohabitation does not always lead to sex, I never had sex with Mr. CT. It all depends on your values and self control. That being said, I personally have no problem with pre-marital sex (to a certain extent. Like you probably aren't prepared to have sex at the age of 13 because you wouldn't be able to handle the consequences that come along with having sex, like pregnancy. We shall save this topic for another day).

2) Mr. Introvert - If any of you have ever met me or know me even in the slightest, you would know that an introvert and I just don't belong together. It took me a little over a year to figure that one out. We dated for about 10 months before moving in together (this time it was my financial problems that lead us to that point) and in the 4 months that followed, I learned all of his traits, thoughts, etc. Most of them drove me absolutely insane. I could never spend the rest of my life living with someone like this. He is a great person and he will make someone so very happy, but that someone just didn't happen to be me. His incessant whining; leaving his computer, Xbox, and every other light on in the house; his less than terrific hygiene; his ability to suck the fun out of everything; etc. Sorry, just not for me. I didn't sign up to be someones mommy. He was as sweet as pie though, and he always put me before himself. I really wish him all the happiness in the world, even if he hates me. (OOPS.)

3) Mr. Black Belt - a.k.a. Mr. Right for Me Yes Indeed - With Mr. BB, what I saw was what I got, and boy was I happy about that. We have been together for 3 and a half years, and have lived together for the better part of two of those years. We have been friends for at least 8 years now, so I always knew he was the one for me right from the start. With Mr. BB, I have found minimal things that changed in the time we have lived together. In some respects, the changes that did happen were for the better. I was pleasantly surprised that his cooking was good, he is cleaner than I am in some respects, he helps with laundry/dishes (when I'm really busy with school and work, he does them ALL the time), etc.

Part 2 tomorrow... what inspired me to write all of this kerfluffle!

Pasta Sauce Avec Bacon!

Delicious new recipe!!! MMMM BACON!

300g Minced Meat (preferably beef)
5 pcs Streaky Bacon, thin strips
2 tins Skinned Tomatoes, chopped/mashed
1 clove Garlic, chopped
2 pcs Yellow/Large Onions, diced
1 pcs Carrot, diced
2 pcs Celery, diced
Red Wine, to taste (normally put 1/4 of a cup)
Salt & Pepper, to taste
Parsley for garnishing

1. Brown bacon in pan.
2. Add onion and saute till caramelize.
3. Add garlic once you can aromatic add in minced meat. Saute for another 2-3 minutes
4. Add tomatoes and red wine. Simmer for 30 minutes.
5. Add carrots and simmer for another 15 minutes.
6. Boil spaghetti in salted water for about 15 minutes. Drain.
7. To serve, on spaghetti, put some celery and pour hot sauce on top. This will then retain the crunchiness of the celery when you bite into it yet, does not taste raw. Then garnish with bit of parsley.

Taste it, you will LOVE it if you like bacon!

*Guitar (Electric or Acoustic) - Perfect if he wants to pick up a new instrument, or just really enjoys music. Tons of articles and books to help you out. Also, don't be afraid to browse in stores, and ask a sales associate. I find that if you go into a small business music store, they are much more personalized and knowledgeable. Acoustic guitars can range anywhere from $50 (used) to $200 (brand new). Electric guitars can range from $100 - $20,000 (depending on the brand, quality, etc.).

*Sterling Silver Guitar Pick (Personalized) - I'm getting this for my fiancee, will post pictures and a review of the vendor when I get it in! $27 plus shipping.

* Boudoir Album - This is more on the sexual side of things, but can be an incredible gift that he can keep forever. The side of you that only he will get to see, captured in sultry photographs and all wrapped up in a pretty little package. These can range from $100 - $700, all depending on the photographer, outfits, hair, makeup, etc. Very well worth it though, because you also get to see and feel how gorgeous you are!

* Digital picture frame - I think this is a great gift for anyone, because you can take it anywhere and have your pictures with you! These have dropped in price and can range from $50 - $200.

* Concert/Sporting Events tickets - What better gift than something that he watches on TV anyways?! You can get tickets to events for super cheap, or you could go as far as to order season tickets to his favorite sports team (which is actually cheaper than I thought it would be).

* Gaming Console - This could be for a beginner or an avid gamer. The beauty of it is that sometimes games will come out that I like to play, so we both use it quite often. It also doubles as a DVD player because our PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray player in it! Here is a guide to all of the systems and what they do.

* Stocks/Savings Bonds - You are investing in your future together, but you could do it in a fun way! A friend of mine got her husband a share of Marvel (comic books) stocks. There are stocks for almost everything imaginable. Go to a broker to find out more information about your options.

Other items: Watch, iPod, mini-moon, slide show for the wedding, custom cuff links, custom Converse Shoes, etc.

I saw an amazing movie this weeked, called One Week (with the ever sexy Joshua Jackson). It was very inspirational and eye opening. Not that I didn't know and think these things before, but it's just one of those movies that remind you what to live for. It reminds you why you are on this gorgeous earth, and it just gives you that subtle push to go out and LIVE. There is a quote from the movie that is basically the way that people should live their lives by:

"When you get those rare moments of clarity, those flashes when the universe makes sense, you try desperately to hold on to them. They are the life boats for the darker times, when the vastness of it all, the incomprehensible nature of life is completely illusive. So the question becomes, or should have been all a long... What would you do if you knew you only had one day, or one week, or one month to live. What life boat would you grab on to? What secret would you tell? What band would you see? If you can't tell by now, I am absolutely obsessed (and quite good at it if I do say so myself) with finding adorable Etsy shops! Tonight, the spot light is on a very talented fellow Canadian named Jaymie (I love how she spells her name)!

I had a quick email interview with Jaymie and she had this to say "I am located in Calgary, AB. My background is in visual communications and I work as an art director full-time for an online/digital agency in town. Canada spent $300 Million on getting the H1N1 influenza A virus vaccination. They say that it has moved into the second pandemic phase. Personally I'm not into vaccinations at all for my own personal reasons and moral woes, so I will not be getting the vaccine. NO THANKS. I have this whole theory about how this is just a conspiracy, but I will leave that for another day. How about you, will you be getting the shot?

I love the idea behind the photobooth's at weddings, but I dislike the price tag that comes along with them. Some rental units can cost an average of $1,000 and up! Why would I want to spend $1,000 on a photobooth alone?!

DO IT YOURSELF! It can save you hundreds! If this is something that sounds of interest to you, I dug up a couple of websites that might help you in your quest for a fun item at you wedding, that won't break the bank. Most of them have suggestions on which softwear to use, what kind of set up you'll need in terms of a camera (you can go polaroid or DSLR), ideas for props, etc.

To continue in the spirit and tradition of the award, I am going to write 7-10 (I pick 7...lol) facts about me and then pass the award on to seven other "Kreativ" bloggers!

I have a first degree black belt in Shorin Ryu karate. I started when I was 5 and got my black belt when I was 16. I took a little bit of a break in between, but I still love it with all of my heart.
I can't help but always think that no body likes me. It's just my defense mechanism that I have had since I was as little as I can remember. If no one likes me, I just don't care and if I don't care I can't get hurt. It took me a long long time to learn that my fiancee isn't going anywhere.
I eat every item of food on my plate one at a time. I can not mix the foods, nor can they be touching one another. It grosses me out, and I refuse to eat a random pea if it has touched my mashed potatoes (just an example).
I love smartfood popcorn, and every other kind of popcorn.
I have hypoglycemia, I hate it.
I love having a blog, even if no one were to read it. There is nothing that I enjoy more in the world that writing and singing.
When I have a down in the dumps kind of week, month, year, whatever I always watch Dawson's Creek from start to finish. Every season and every episode. <3

Now I pass the torch to 7 others.

Our First "Just the Two of Us" Holiday!!

This is our first holiday on our own that we "hosted" (just for ourselves though lol). It was so good!!! I made everything except the asparagus (which Josh made on the BBQ...MMM) . I made the turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. YUMMY! Everything was so good, we were pleasantly surprised, not because we can't cook, but it was all timed right and just came out the best! Here are my recipe's that I used.

Turkey

1 (12 pound) whole turkey
6 tablespoons butter, divided
4 cups warm water
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon
2 tablespoons dried parsley
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
2 tablespoons seasoning salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse and wash turkey. Discard the giblets, or add to pan if they are anyone's favorites.
Place turkey in a Dutch oven or roasting pan. Separate the skin over the breast to make little pockets. Put 3 tablespoons of the butter on both sides between the skin and breast meat. This makes for very juicy breast meat.
In a medium bowl, combine the water with the bouillon. Sprinkle in the parsley and minced onion. Pour over the top of the turkey. Sprinkle seasoning salt over the turkey.
Cover with foil, and bake in the preheated oven 3 1/2 to 4 hours, until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C). For the last 45 minutes or so, remove the foil so the turkey will brown nicely.

Asparagus

2 lb Asparagus
1 tbsp (15 mL) extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp (1 mL) each salt & pepper

Directions

Snap woody ends off asparagus. Place remaining stalks in shallow dish. Sprinkle with olive oil, salt and pepper; shake dish to coat asparagus.
Place asparagus on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and grill, turning occasionally, until tender-crisp, about 6 minutes. (Make-ahead: Let asparagus cool for 10 minutes; cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Serve at room temperature.)

Apple Pie

2-1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
5 to 7 Tbsp. ice cold water
6 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (about 4 large apples)
3/4 cup sugar
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 Tbsp. lemon juice (optional)

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Mix flour and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
ADD water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, mixing lightly with fork until flour mixture is evenly moistened and clings together when pressed into a ball. Divide dough in half; shape each half into 1/2-inch-thick round. Wrap each dough round in plastic wrap; refrigerate 15 min.
MEANWHILE, toss apples with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice in large bowl; set aside. Place 1 dough round between two large sheets of plastic wrap; roll out dough with rolling pin to flatten slightly, working from center of dough to the edge. Turn over; continue rolling until dough round is about 2 inches larger than diameter of inverted 9-inch pie plate.
PEEL off top piece of plastic wrap; invert dough into pie plate. Peel off remaining piece of plastic wrap; press dough evenly onto bottom and up side of pie plate, being careful not to stretch the dough. Trim any dough hanging over edge of pie plate with sharp knife or kitchen shears; reserve trimmings.
FILL with apple mixture; set aside. Roll out remaining dough as directed; place over filling. Trim top crust about 1/2 inch beyond edge of pie plate. Fold edge of top crust under edge of bottom crust; pinch edges together to form a ridge. Flute edge (see Tip). Cut several slits near center of pie to allow steam to escape.
BAKE 45 to 50 min. or until juices form bubbles that burst slowly. Cool.

Oh how I love monograms!! I just figured I would post mine, perhaps to give others some inspiration!

Here is my beautiful Monogram made by Nicole from Pink Design Events!! Check out her website for STD, Invites, Monograms, etc.

These are the ones that I DIY-ed on Publisher. I think they came out pretty good, considering I have never done anything like this.

I think everyone should have a monogram made for business, weddings, etc. Even if you don't know where you are going to use it at first, I'm sure everyone can find a use for it. We put it on our little Spanish Books that we DIYed (will post when I have pictures). You can try to make your own if you feel creative enough, it's really quite simple!
